Biophysics

The biophysics group at UCR has faculty researchers working in biocomputing (Prof. Mills), biomolecular structure and dynamics (Prof. Zandi, Prof. Tom and Prof. Beyermann), and single molecule interactions (Prof. Mohideen). Prof. Mills uses special DNA fragments as the starting block to experimentally design a bio-computer. Prof. Zandi is a theorist who studies the equilibrium structure of viruses, and the nucleation theory and kinetics of viral self-assembly. Prof. Tom and Prof. Beyerman study the solvation dynamics and electronic properties of DNA in water through terahertz spectroscopy and transport measurements. Prof. Mohideen uses single molecule experiments to investigate the non-equilibrium bond formation between synaptic proteins involved in exocytosis.
